The son of John & Marcella Seeney of Strafordon-Avon, Warwickshire. According to his attestation papers, he was five feet five & three-quarter inches tall with a fresh complexion, dark brown hair and had grey eyes. Before enlisting he was employed as a warehouse assistant.

Joined the Royal Marines in November 1906.
