William Lansley was born on October 9th, 1884, the son of Henry and
Fanny Lansley of 54 St John's Street, Wincester, Hants. According
to his attestation papers, he was five feet three inches tall, with
a fresh complexion, brown hair and had brown eyes. He had a scar on
the front and back of his hand from a burn (paper reads 'torched').
Before enlisting he was employed as a groom.
Joined the Royal Navy on October 17, 1902
