Ernest John David Dennis was born on February 7, 1889, the son of
Noah and Ann Dennis of Osborn Street, Newton Abbot, Devon. He married
Alice Perkins in Newton Abbot in 1910. According to his attestation
papers, he was five feet four inches tall, with a fresh complexion,
light brown hair and had brown eyes. Before enlisting he was employed
as an errand boy..
